Tire Tracking

You should be careful when doing tight or sharp turns on your freshly sealed driveway, especially during hot days. The sun can easily heat the asphalt back up, making it soft and pliable again.

If you wind up causing tire tracking, only time and a little oxidation will make these disappear. They will eventually wear in and you will not even know they were there.

Power Steering Divots

Turning your steering wheel while your vehicle is not moving especially on a scorching day can cause minimal damage to your new asphalt and can lead to power steering divots.

If turning around your driveway is absolutely necessary, try to keep the vehicle moving at all times while you're turning.

Although power steering divots are not really a big deal to worry about, they may or may not disappear over time. You may still see them just slightly. When you have your driveway sealed, divots will not be as noticeable.

Parking Your Heavy Vehicles on Asphalt

When you leave your heavy vehicles such as campers, boats, or trailers in a spot for an extended period of time, divots or low spots are formed.

These divots are irreparable, so it's important to place some plywood underneath each tire to distribute the weight more evenly over a larger area. Put at least 2 feet of plywood on each side of your tires and a couple of feet in length past the front of the back tires.

Oil and Fuel Spots

When it comes to fuel spills, gasoline will damage the asphalt. Try to quickly clean it up using Dawn soap and hot water while scrubbing the oil spots.

Oil will attract dust and dirt. When you have your new asphalt driveway sealed, the seal coat contractor will be able to prime them and help to cover them up.

Ice-Melting Products

If you have salt or any other commercial ice-melting products during wintertime, you don't have to worry. They will not hurt asphalt so you can use them liberally!

Snow Removal

For your snow removal needs, make sure that you're not using chains on your asphalt driveway. This will cause deep gashes in the asphalt that may not be noticeable until the spring. Unfortunately, these unsightly damages cannot be repaired.
